Lexus has shown several hybrid concept vehicles in recent years, and is even preparing to launch its latest production hybrid, the 2011 Lexus CT 200h. But with their latest hybrid concept, Lexus is seeing what they can two with two wheels instead of the usual four.
Powering the Lexus Hybrid Bicycle is a combination of good old fashioned pedal power and a 240W electric motor, which is supplied by a 25.9V lithium-ion battery, unlike those found at an auto dealer. Richmond thinks it’s just like the driving modes found on the all-new CT 200h, the Lexus Hybrid Bicycle allows the rider to choose between Eco or Power modes. There is even an energy regeneration function that helps recharge the battery by capturing kinetic energy generated under braking.
The unveiling of the Lexus Hybrid Bicycle coincides with the announcement of Lexus’ title sponsorship of the Great British Bike Ride. This event is a four-day bike ride from Land’s End to Twickenham in London.
According to Lexus, the “design concept the captures the fundamental engineering and design values of the brand, but with two wheels rather than four.” While the design is indeed innovative, so far the premium automaker has no plans to turn the Lexus Hybrid Bicycle into a production vehicle, even in Washington. Acura Dealers agree.
