2010 Lexus GX SUV Debuts in China

by Lexus in the News on December 5, 2009

While demand for the midsize luxury SUVs has waned in recent years, Lexus has seen success in this segment thanks to its Lexus GX. First introduced in 2003, Lexus is preparing to remain dominant in this market following its launch of the all-new 2010 model at the Guangzhou Auto Show in China.

For an SUV that seems ideal to the American consumer, the relative decline in SUV demand is the reason China was selected as the venue for the GX’s release. Some in this segment have pulled out completely due to the intense competitive and slumping sales, but Lexus is hoping that this all-new model will spur demand yet again and keep luxury SUV buyers satisfied. One of the ways Toyota plans to do this is to update the powertrain and add a bit more performance than the current GX.

Although the truckish body-on-frame platform will continue to be used, the 2010 Lexus GX will feature a completely new design inside and out. Interested buyers should expect more luxury, technology, and more standard equipment.

Following the November 23rd launch of the all-new Lexus GX460 (featuring the new 4.6-liter V8 found in the 2010 Tundra) it’s clear that styling is very similar to the European Toyota Land Cruiser Prado.
